ABOUT ASHLEY

Hi there! My name is Ashley and I am a registered dietitian. Usually when people hear this, their response is "Oh, let me tell you about this new diet I am trying". This is usually when I politely interrupt them to tell them that I am not interested. You see, I consider myself to be a non-diet dietitian. What does this mean you ask? It means I am sick of the diet culture that we live in. It means I don’t believe in “good” and “bad” foods. It means I believe you should listen to both your heart and your brain when nourishing your body. It means that I believe everyone can be healthy – no matter the shape or size of your body. It means you don’t have to count calories or obsess about what you eat. It means less time worrying about food and more time doing things that are good for your soul. It means food is food is food is food. PERIOD.
I received my bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from University of Rhode Island and my master’s degree from Boston University. Early on in my nutrition education experience, I wondered if it was the right path for me. While I loved the science of nutrition and the human body, I hated the stigma around my potential profession. I began to explore different avenues within the field of nutrition and quickly discovered that I wanted to use my knowledge to push back against food stigmas. I dove into a career working with individuals with eating disorders and disordered eating and found it so rewarding to help others along their recovery journey.
I have been in the field for nearly 14 years and I am a certified eating disorder specialist and approved supervisor. I have worked with both adults and adolescents in all settings including acute inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization programs, and outpatient. I previously held a position as the Director of Clinical Nutrition at an eating disorder treatment center for many years before transferring to one on one outpatient counseling. I am a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, and the International Federation for Eating Disorder Dietitians.
My goal in working with my clients is to help them find freedom from food. I hope to help people achieve optimal health. I believe this includes providing the body with proper nourishment to fuel mind, body, and soul. This means including everything from broccoli to brownies without shame, fear, or guilt.
